Film schools can't teach you everything about filmmaking because no two filmmakers will take exactly the same route to getting their films made and distributed - but learning about all those different strategies makes for some interesting class discussions!


Film school can't teach you your style and motivation, because it's up to you. What film school CAN do is give you some great life experience that will help inspire your creativity and drive. But let's be honest - if you want an easy course in filmmaking, there are plenty of other ways to get one of those. Film school isn't just about learning how to make movies - it's about how making movies is part of who you are and how you're going to define yourself as a person. It's like dating: There's no right or wrong way, there are just lessons learned along your journey that might not have been possible had you not set out on it in the first place!

In order to market your films you need to create content that people want to view. When it comes to marketing, no one knows more than Disney and Pixar. Pixar movies have garnered billions of dollars in revenue because they know how to market effectively. From their captivating trailers with music written by Oscar-winning composers, right down to their end credits (which are often longer than feature films), Pixar always has something interesting for us to watch and look at. The takeaway? There is an art—an actual strategy—to making compelling content. Sure, some movies are great just because they are excellent pieces of work but most aren't; there is generally a plan behind them (otherwise why else would companies spend so much money on film marketing?).
